Da Flatlynerz Deliver a Hip-Hop Masterpiece withShowtime at the Rialto
Da Flatlynerz are a testament to Rialto's resilience and creativity. QP and 40oz OC never went away. From their high school days of cyphers and freestyling over beats to teaming up to form one of IE's best duo groups, Da Flatlynerz are a household name in the 909. With their latest single, "Aint Built Da Same," the title says alone.
This symphony layered soundscape sets the tone of the maturity and patience it took to really build what the Da Flatlynerz have; skill, technique, flavor, science and art. It's a tale of two extraordinary artists who never caved in to self-doubt, pressures or politics of the game.
The record starts with a 40oz OC affirming their determination and turning the misconceptions that were cast on them from the jump on its head. The video takes place in downtown Riverside where there is an old time lookin' Theatre which is probably the reason they chose to record their video in Riverside for that aestheic feel. I love it, I know Rialto doesn't have that currently and that aesthetic also matches their album cover.
When the bass and beat kick in, it's 40oz OC spitting the first verse and right away, his cadence and off kilter flow really gives the track color and not only that, OC is digging in his bag with bars like, "I'm from the city were N*#&@* broke for that F*$&*# buck, they F*#& around and throw the mask on like Dark wing Duck." OC has a lot of reference and cool metaphors that will surprise you, but he makes it gritty and grimey still which is really the magic.
QP offers the perfect complimentary voice with OC and the styles are very different. I find the echo adlib to be very innovative. There is a certain clutch to his voice that brings you into his storytelling. He drops gems from experiences and the authenticity cannot be denied. Together QP and Octane are an unstoppable force in the game.
I have the pleasure of meeting both and had them both on the podcast to talk about their music and history. I am honored to have been able to talk with these talented artists and I'm proud that they came out from my hometown, Rialto.
