My Interview with Stevie Crooks
I want start by saying these blogs will not be written by AI. Our blog will be authentic words from our own experience with the music, project or artist.
There are artist who are superior lyricist, then there are artist that might have a cut-to-tape delivery, but lack the penmanship, or artists that have the look, but it doesn't match with the music. Stevie Crooks has it all in spades. An artist, artist. Pure visionary with superior delivery backed by layered lyricism and cinematic production. A stand out artist out of the IE, Crooks has created an ethos that feels like a Bond movie. The elegance is effortless, the finesse is God given, but the storytelling is the bricks built by Stevie's own hands.
From the jump, since Can't Stop the Crooks, there has always been a consistent narrative and that narrative is that Stevie wasn't going to be marginalized or put into a box, but that the resistance would always be there for good. That when everything hits the fan, Stevie would be the one to put this whole thing on his back for hip-hop. And thats a lot to say from an artist in a genre so ego driven where usually its about self-promotion and less about creative stories, themes and reflection like when you hear Crook's music. Maybe that's what separates him apart. It's anti-algorithm, music that is crafted by love, passion and heart.
Another point I find fascinating about Stevie is his dedication to the presentation. He is like a navy seal, a masked hero, a Zorro of sorts, taking us on a journey of adventure and action mixed with deeper layers of ambition and love. His style is clever, grandiose and inventive, but what stands out most is that he on his own timing. Crooks knows the mission, he knows his pulse, and he is what the IE is all about. D.I.Y. - Do it yourself. In the Inland Empire, lies some of the greatest minds and some of the richest talent SoCal has to offer. Somewhere is this big overshadowed region, are lyricist sharpening their pen, producers experimenting in their basements and the world would be comforted to know, hip-hop is gonna be alright as long as we got an artist out here like Crooks ready to bring back the balance at any given time.
